The bowl is inscribed “Th. Kroners Grabmahl”.

The lid is embossed with a view of Wartburg castle, where Luther translated the bible into German. The lid is also inscribed “Eine Feste Ist Unser Gott” - God is our refuge and our guide, Psalm 46. The lid is also dated 1817.
