Description: Stummel with ellipsoid bowl.
Possibly Meissen, because of the style of the spur and angle of the stem. Meissen made “Wedgewood” in the first half of the 19th century.
The panel depicts the physician Asklepios or Acapius, son of Apollo and Kronis, who was taught medicine by Chiron. The staff shows that he is a wanderer, and the serpent symbolizes rejuvenation by the shedding of its skin.
